PowerBook power adapter problem?

Anyone have a problem with their PowerBook power adapter? Mine is not being recognized by the PowerBook. It's plugged in and yet recharging is not happening.

I have looked on the Apple knowledge base and found the article about resetting the PowerManagementUnit. Done. But still no luck.

The wire where it meets the orange/green light housing is worn and peeks through. It also is getting warm when plugged in. I have not noticed that before.

If anyone has experienced this or knows anything about it please help.

TIA.

If the plug is wearing out, you should replace it. Unfortunately, this also means replacing the entire adaptor.

Unplug the adapter for 3-4 hours and then plug it in. If still no charging then probably the adapter went to Adapters Heaven :(

Also, if you bring it near your nose while it is hot, does it have a strange bad smell? If yes, surely your adapter died. Here is hoping that your guarantee is still on!

You should know that it is no good to have the adapter always plugged, not to the PowerBook but the wall socket! :(

If you are using your PowerBook seriously, buy for it a 2nd adapter ASAP! :)

Does it supply power to your powerbook when the battery is unplugged? Maybe it's a prob with your battery...

I am thinking that it does. If there is no green or orange light, does it mean it is working?

No, I mean, when you put the battery out of your powerbook, does your comp run just with the power supply? If so, than there is something wrong with your battery. The colour doesn't play any role. Just the question if it is working without battery at all...

Pulled the battery and still no go. It looks like I might have to get a new one. Hopefully it is just the power adapter.

Does any one know if Apple has a problem with their power supplies? I hope it is not a hardware issue.

Yeah, their power cords are, plain and simple, complete shit unfortunately. That's happened to me twice and I know other people who that's happened to. Luckily Applecare is in my presence and Apple's cool about stuff like that. Now I treasure my powercord and guard it with my life.
