i have a g4 powerbook titanium, 667, 512, etc. i'm trying to output to a tv (in this particular instance a RCA), and although i've done it times before by pressing "detect displays," and then mirroring the display in the display preferences (OSX), it simply will not work. nothing happens when i click "detect displays," and nothing new appears in the display preferences window. so ... does anyone know what to do? it is connected correctly because a PC friend of mine uses the same setup.

anyone?

thanks
anthony

You've made this work before with the same setup? It sounds like you're doing the right things...

First check the s-video is firmly connected... sounds obvious, but that's caught me before...

try starting up in clamshell mode and seeing if it detects your TV. If that doesn't work, try starting up into 9 and seeing if it detects it then. If it doesn't, it sounds like it could be a problem with whatever detects that something is plugged into the S-video port. At least you'll narrow it down that way...

I believe he means keeping it closed while it's stating up. I do this. Press the power button on your powerbook, then close it and keep it closed while the computer starts up. Then open it again so you can use the keyboad and trackpad.

maybe this is a stupid question, but is your tv currently receiving a RCA video in from a reciever? some tvs and receivers require that you use either s-video or RCA at a time, not both.

for example... plugging both in will disable the video bus of my stereo reciever (SONY)
