PowerBook sounds like a plane when moved about!

Hi peeps,

My powerbook started making a very odd noise when I move it about when it is on. It sounds wither like the hard drive 'skidding' or something obstructing the fan. It is only when I tilt the powerbook from side to side or back to front, even only about 15 degrees either way.

Anyone have any ideas?

BTW this is a 2004 AlPowerBook 1.25Ghz.

Thanks in advance :)

If this is one of the new PowerBooks (the ones with the two finger scroll and Sudden Motion Sensor) it could be that the Sudden Motion Sensor is detecting the tilt and parking the hard drive heads. This was designed to protect the hard drive in the event of a fall.

Regards,
Marc

If you have a CD or DVD in it, when you tilt it, it'll sound like something is eating something else inside your mac. Take the CD out, see if that fixes it.

Eek. I heard that kind of thing (same PowerBook model), though, nowhere near as often and not as loud, and my hard disk failed months later. I suggest you back-up, then call Apple for an HD replacement.
