Powerbook Video Out/Mirroring Question

I just got a new 15" Powerbook (1ghz), and I love it.

I'm starting to use it to watch DVD, divx, and vcd movies on my TV (via s-video out).

Is there a way to shut off the laptop screen when I either have the TV treated as an external monitor or if I have video mirroring turned on? I don't need to see anything on the laptop screen and I'm sure this would conserve power consumption.

I do know I can turn the brightness way down on the laptop screen (without affecting the TV) but it's still not off completely.

if you attach an external keyboard and power supply your power book will run closed, using the tv as the monitor.

Otherwise you can (as you said) just turn the brightness right down until the backlight for the screen is off.

i have had well over 6 hours of use out of my powerbook (550 Gigabit) with the screen turned right down! (it wasn't doing much - just playing itunes)
