Hello,
I need to configure a network. I have OS 9.2 on my 9650 and have decided to persue some options. Would the original OS X work to integrate this environment. I have the following machines.
I have several Windows Machines on the physical network:
Windows XP Home
Windows 98 SE
Windows 2000 Professional
I have several Macs on the physical Network:
Imac DV400 (OS 10.2.x)
Powermac 5500 All-In-One (9.1)
Powermac 9600 Digital Audio Workstation (9.2)
Powermac 9650 Workgroup Server (9.2)
I have several Macs that require VPN or remote services:
Ibook 800Mhz (OS 10.2)
B/W G3 Digital Audio Workstation (OS 9.2)
G4 400Mhz Digital Audio Workstation (OS 10.1)
I want to set up my 9650 that doesn't have anything but an OS 9.2 currently to do the following:
I've thought about going to the original OS X as I see it on Ebay a lot for under $100. Additionally, I've considered going Yellow Dog Linux. I'm probably missing something even better.
Thanks from the forum for your help in this matter.

I want to set up my 9650 that doesn't have anything but an OS 9.2 currently to do the following:
- File Sharing via FTP Server
- Remote Services with Security (VPN or what ever Apple Used To Use)
- Firewall to keep others out while spending less time manag
- Print Server Capabilities. I'm currently using a USB HP Multi-Function Fax/Scan/Printer through a Sonnet Trio card.
I've thought about going to the original OS X as I see it on Ebay a lot for under $100. Additionally, I've considered going Yellow Dog Linux. I'm probably missing something even better.
