PowerMac G4 Sawtooth NO SLEEP!

A) Initializing my 20 GB hard drive after my stupid attempt at installing a 2nd hard drive (which now successfully works), and
B) Installing a Keyspan USB 2.0 PCI card,

My G4 no longer successfully goes to sleep; neither a direct command from OS X nor waiting for Energy Saver to kick in works. The fan continues to run, the light stays green, and nothing short of pushing one of the buttons on the front of the computer elicits a response. I am force to force restart the machine.

Are any of my hardware installations the cause? I have not tried to de-install either of them. I think I was able to put it to sleep after the hard drive, so I can try the USB card first.

[bright idea] Why don't I try that right now? That way somebody doesn't have to suggest it, and I can troubleshoot my own problem! [/bright idea] I'll post back with my findings.

Turns out my VST floppy drive (which has never worked like it should) was the culprit. Whenever I had it plugged in the the PCI card, the G4 would never fully go to sleep. I remember now that my USB 2.0 card is compatible with USB 1.1 through 2.0. Perhaps this floppy drive is 1.0 or something.

Anyway, I plugged the VST drive into the main USB port on the back and it went asleep like it should. I was unable to read a floppy disk, but that's a separate issue.

If anybody has more helpful insight into any of these problems, that would be great. :)
