prevent Command+Q

I am somehow sick of accidently closing the whole app when I actually want to close single windows. For instance safari: I am working on several tabs and wanna close one. Accidently I press q instead of w and et voila mess. So, any chance to prevent this or add a second request or so. ICQ for example always asks, if I really wanna close the app when I press command q.
So, any way to do this? Would love to apply it on mail as well.
Thanks!

thought of it, but then it counts for all apps. :( Actually just want two of my apps never to be closed without a request

Safari in particular needs an option to prompt before quitting.
One possible way to do it, though a bit time consuming and requiring some skills, would be to install the Developer tools, open the MainMenu.nib file for Safari using Interface Builder, and change the key combination for the quit option, or even remove it completely. Not sure if that would work, though.

In Panther you can use Keyboard Shortcuts from the Keyboard and Mouse Preference Pane to edit key commands application-specifically. :)

Of course, only you can prevent typing errors. :p

Ufff, eventhough it's pi$$ing me off a lot lately, I think I would rather live with it but start messing with developer tools ;)
Thanks anyway, Symphonix!

But can I edit such basic commands as command q as well? I will try it when I'm home. Thanks, Andy!

You're quite welcome Zammy-Sam! And you should be able to edit any Menu command under Keyboard Shortcuts. The only one that hasn't worked for me yet in Safari is Bookmarks Bar, for some reason. So I just programmed my Macally keyboard to take care of that one.

Incidentally, there have been a number of striking innovations to Preferences Panes in Panther (such as Speech Recognition and the aforementioned Keyboard Shortcuts) and in the various updates (such as the new method to Calibrate Color under Displays in 10.3.3)
