Price?

Apple finally agreed to replace my Macbook Pro because mine was a piece of junk, but in all truth be told, for the nine months of hassle I went through, that mac was not worth my time, Sorry guys. I'm just wondering what would be a good price for it?

It's a 15" 2.2GHz Macbook Pro, 2gb of ram, 200gb hardrive 5400rpm. Brand new, box still has it's original seal. Extra battery, Wireless Mighty mouse and two more years of AppleCare.

I was thinking to put this in the Computer classified section but first of all, nobody's viewing it and also, I'm not looking to sell to someone online but just looking for a rough estimate on how much you guys think its worth.

Also, for those that are offended that I would dare go back to a PC: I hate microsoft as well,and will never put windows on my new computer.
 
Go about it this way...

1.) Compare your notebook to the ones Apple is _currently_ offering, including refurbished models, MacBooks, MacBook Pros, all of them. The price for your MBP has to be lower than what Apple is asking for a similar thing, because either that's a new thing and/or they're the more qualified seller.

2.) Look at the differences between the model that fits best and your MBP. It'll give you a feel for what a potential buyer might want to pay less.

3.) Look around for potential buyers. Put it on as many boards (online/offline) that are relevant for your region as possible.

Oh and: The thread doesn't belong to "software". At all.
 
Hi Supanatral, check on some Canadian sites where they sell Macs - anything from Ebay to MacWorld etc etc. There might be a rough estimate of the current value. Should be good though, and that should be easy to sell.
One place to put ads would be of course local universities or craigslist or gumtree etc - local may be more comfortable to sell.
Which Linux are you going to go back to?
 
Hey supanatral. SOrry that Apple just wasn't for you. However, if you are going to use Linux on the next laptop have you thought about one of the Ubuntu Dells or something from system76? Those would surely have all the hardware supported under Linux since they come preinstalled with it.

Dells with Ubuntu preinstalled.

System76 computers with Linux preinstalled.

I am looking to purchase a MacBook Pro later this year, but if not then these would be my other options. One things for sure, there will be NO Windows laptop for me.

Then again, Apple's current offerings would probably even make a great Linux laptop as well. The hardware is great, but if the OS isn't for you then you can always run Linux on it exclusively.

That's what I'd do... I can't say I understand disliking OS X, though!

Well, it's not for everyone. I actually enjoy both Mac OS X and Linux. Still learning FreeBSD but I'm liking that as well. To be honest, I do find myself more on the Linux side than anything, but I can never lose my love for the Mac. :D

Well, I don't hate OS X. I think it has its upsides and downsides as with anything. I know that this is not normal, but I've gone through heck just dealing with apple and besides, if I own a PC, then I'm cirtified to take it apart and replace components. Also, right now since I'm getting a new comptuer shipped to me, here is the perfect time to get rid of it without loosing too much money.

Also, think about it this way, I haven't had a working computer in 9 months. That doesn't live up to my standards for Apple and I know that doesn't live upto Apples standards either

Yes but if you're talking about a notebook, about the only thing you can really replace is the hard drive, RAM, and possibly the CPU. Not much different between the Mac and PC notebooks there, IMO. As for the Apple desktops, you can always get a Power Macintosh G4 and still run Leopard just fine, and there are tons of aftermarket upgrades. You could also spring for a gen-1 Mac Pro (although that's still up in price mainly due to its server-grade components). And these desktops that I've mentioned are extremely upgradeable just like any PC.

Still, it's up to you. You gave the Mac a chance and it just wasn't for you. Fair enough I would say. :) At least you're not going to Windows. :D
 
Nope, not going to windows. What I don't understand is why it is that A+ certification which allows me to touch a windows computer doesn't also allow me to touch a mac considering like you said, they're exactly the same.

I edited my last post to add on that I haven't had a working computer in 9 months. I don't have any hard feelings agaist Apple for all of this, in general they do make a good product but this is my way to express that 9 months is rediculous. I'm sure that my case is rare though.

How did you... live?
 
Well, it technically worked, but it froze everyday where i had to restart it by the button, fans sped upto full speed, squeeled and shut off on me randomly. I was restarting this about 5-10 times a day and when brought to Apple, they said that they can't see the problem.
 
I also wanted to say that because my brother owns a mac he might be asking quesions from now on. Also, I may be coming online to help the ones on this site so don't be surprised if you continue to see my name come up.
