I don't have a driver which will allow a canon Laser Shot 2900i to install a printer I have just bought. I've been on the canon software website which told me that the mac osx was compatible. The imac OSX 10.2.8 has recognised the printer. Is it possible that you could find me a compatible driver?

The Canon LBP-2900i laser printer is not supported by Canon on MacOS X. You need a CUPS driver. However, CUPS support for this printer is poor. You will need the may need the help of someone who is familiar with Linux. Start here, read carefully, and then follow the this link.

Dear misterme

Thankyou for the information re a Canon laser 2900i printer for my imac OS X 10.2.8. This has been very helpful as I was told that the printer was compatible and I've have spent a long time trying to install the blooming printer! Now it's time to return it. Is there a printer you would recommend for my imac?

Sincerely

... Is there a printer you would recommend for my imac?

...
Yes. I would recommend a Xerox Phaser 8560.

I assume that you want a laser printer. With the price of printers today, there is no reason not to get a laser printer--except for the fact that the economy is in the crapper. For less that $1000 USD, you get a genuine PostScript networked duplex color printer that spits out about 24 pages per minute. It uses solid ink rather than powdered toner, but this can be a good thing--and it is less expensive than the powered toner printers.

Every current operating system supports PostScript. With a PostScript printer, you use the PostScript driver that is a part of your operating system. No more waiting for the printer manufacturer to support your new OS or the new version of your current OS.

Many Mac users swear by Brother. If Brother is your preference, then get a PostScript-compatible printer and most of the things that I said about Xerox will apply.

Once again MisterMe thankyou. I apologise to you for my delay. It's that I am just beginning to find my way on this forum which I've found to be very helpful.
My next task is to find an outlet for the printer that you suggest. I have to put this task aside for a week as I am flying to Gran Canaria to take up a voyage on a Tall ship.
Yours truly
