printer/memory hassels

G3 Mac 9.2.2/ Combo external drive

Due to a screw-up I have had to re-install my system. All is okay, except the printer (Epson Stylus R220). I had to set it up via the Epson Site because the CD Rom was only for the X version. Thus no Icon to up the memory...or am I missing something when I download. I've done it three times. Yikes.
I still get "insufficient memory" each time. Also...."choose a selector" when I try to view before printing. Doesn't change anything.
Any thoughts? Merci.

Epson doesn't seem to support OS 9 for the R220 and likely will not support OS 9 for any new printers it is making from here on out -- and probably all new printers for the last couple of years.

I would upgrade to Mac OS X -- what are you waiting for?

What are the specs on your system? Is it an iMac G3 or a Blue & White G3 tower? How much RAM do you have? What's the capacity and the free space of your hard drive (get info on the hard drive)? Is there software that you are using in OS 9 that's keeping you from going to OS X? If so what software and what version is it?

I'm here to help you find the best solution and I'll be watching this thread for your response. You may also feel free to contact me through my web site: http://www.macworks.biz/

Many thanks Macworks

Chris,

G3 PowerMac Blue Tower. All the memory avalaible. My USB Key has more memory then this old machine. Quark,Illustrator,Word, etc. Old versions.
Still doing okay but it is the end of the line.
I know.
All is a question of budget and waiting for 2007 with Mac/Intel Tower (G6?)....here in France anyway. With 19.5% tax to boot could still pose a problem. But we need the good stuff and for the long run.

We fixed the problem, more or less. Having lost the hard disk but saved most important things on Prodisc Alu Como 80...even certain applications, we still had to re-install certan things (like Netscape...lost all bookmarks) and Suitcase...lost fonts, Quark, photoshop and so forth. Once re-installed there was TOO much in system folder(doubles) too heavy what. SOS disque took too long to verify that we understood in looking at the sysstem that there was too much...thus the loss of printer R220 and other conflicts. After a days work (we are independent workers) of what to chuck (still not sure though) all came back into order...the printer for sure. This Epson R220 works rather nicely with this old Mac 9.1.2. Slow but nice. We're still working on extentions and files that are either worthless or in double, etc. It is always difficult to know what to chuck and what to save.
The panic came from the idea that there was a layout (35 pages, tons of photos that had to be finished yesterday).
It is now finished and hope to be payed, despite the delay.
Of course the X would be better...especially when one considers upgrades and other things. In fact, we have an X disk here. The first one. But with this old Mac it is worth it? Too heavy. No?
To make a long story short, there will always be these problems until we'll have something a little more sofisticated. Mac is the only great computer, especially in PAO (desktop publishing). We have no problems of bugs or mechanics, but only old software, bad configuration and manipulation from us.
I know I am not very clear but let it be known that I appreciate your answer. I'll let you know further details should things continue to be difficult.
Again, many thanks for your answer and your thoughts.
Henry

PS Oh, just a question. Do you know a site where I can re-download RealPlayer FOR OS 9. I only find it for OS X now. I lost Realplayer with the Hard Disk. It wasn't saved on Combo. Hate to lose some good jazz clips.
