Printer Sharing issue?

I have a Dual processor G4 mac at home on and a Win 2000 pc with an Epson stylus RX500.

The Rx500 is connected to the pc and the Mac shares this printer from the pc,however when I try to print anything from the Mac the Epson just prints out jibberish code??

Is this a driver issue? I thought that mac OSX update would load all the latest drivers but maybe not..

Any advice would be great for someone thats really had a crash course in Mac issues over the last month..

Tried the basics, reboot, ununstall reinstall with printer setup utility but no joy.

Are you using the Epson supplied drivers or the in-built OSX ones ? Sounds like the printer is getting sent a postscript print job and as it is not a postscript printer it can't handle it.

dfemorton,
Nearly all inkjet manufacturers' drivers don't support windows/network printing. The drivers bypass CUPS, so the only comm protocol that works is the one the driver was written for - usually USB. This is the reason that Apple included the Gimp-Print drivers in OS X (the open source drivers are fully CUPS-capable). Your printer isn't supported in the version of Gimp-Print included in Panther (vers 4.2.5), but it is in the newer version 4.2.7 available here:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3

Good luck.
