Printer sharing windows to mac or mac to windows

Hello Everybody,

I have a usb printer and 1 macosx desktop and 1 windows xp laptop. I need both computers to be able to print but I'm having some issues. Currently the usb connection is plugged into the laptop and shared there.

When I had the usb connection in the mac it would attempt to print and will send the document to the printer but not actually print it. I will have to go over there and tell it to "reprint" what it's spooled. Btw, the printer is a HL-2700 and for various reasons the onboard network can not be used.

When I have it hooked directly to the XP machine everything works fine printing from XP, I can share the printer and print from other XP machines too but the mac refuses to connect to the printer. I even tried using using shared network printer via samba with smb://ipaddress/printername and I selected the correct driver too. It just gives not connecting errors that samba can't connect

For some reason it just can't connect. I tried smb client and then I got a error there too saying it can't connect. Please what am I doing wrong?

Alternatively I tried connecting it to the mac desktop which would be idea. It immediatley recognises it and can print but then after a while it just spools the data and doens't print it. Also after a while I get messages saying access is denied.

I have a pc and a mac laptop. I just set up each computer individually and print from each as needed by connecting the usb cable.

As for print serving you're probably better off serving from the mac and having the pc connect to it that way. Make sure you have the driver installed on the pc for your printer.
