Printing problems

Hi, Charles here, I have the following problem. We have a Ricoh AP3800c printer and printing is extremely slow on 2 macs and as it should be on the third. I have tried re-installing the PPD, binning the excisting PPD files from the library from the user folder and nothing works. Is there a other location where I need to look for a clean installation? Many thanks in advance. Charles

A "clean installation" will do squat for your print speed.

Please be advised that Ricoh does not support Aficio AP3800C on the Mac. Furthermore, it assumes that the printer is setup by someone who familiar enough with Windows that no instructions are needed--because no instructions are given. At least the downloadable manual deals exclusively with hardware and with virtually nothing about print drivers. As best I can gather, the printer offers the option of PCL 5e or PostScript emulation (or is it genuine PostScript?).

The question for you is: "How is your Mac connected to the printer and which driver(s) are you using to communicate with it?"

There is good news. Ricoh supplies a CUPS-compatible PPD file for the Aficio AP3800C. You may download it here.

There is a lot of discussion about CUPS elsewhere on this forum. However, you may be better served by downloading Gutenprint and reading the documentation.
