Printing through Airport

I have followed various hints on printing to unsupported printers, however, Istill cannot print to my printer. I have an Airport extreme base station and an HP Deskjet 870Cxi (this is an unsupported printer without an osx driver). I have downloaded and installed the ghostcript and HPijs files. I was able to successfully add the printer as suggested, however every time I print to it, I receive retry errors... it keeps retrying to print forever. I am on 10.3.1. Can anyone help?

The DeskJet 870Cxi has no printserver. How is it plugged to the network? Any comp sharing it? If so, what os? Windoze? OSX?

The 870Cxi is hooked in directly to the Airport extreme base station through the USB port.
I installed the HPijs and ghostscript applications. I understand that he airport can act as the print server and that the HPijs and ghostscript apps will allow you to print to an unsupported printer. Nevertheless, the setup doesn't seem to be working.

HP just released a new driver for Deskjets - just a couple of days ago. Have you tried that one?

I have tried gimp print, however, it won't allow me to connect due to some other compatiblity issue with the USB keyspan connector that I have. This was per about 6 months ago, however.

The updated drivers from HP that were just released does not include the 870CXi drivers for OS X.

Am I stretching / hoping too much that this will work?

The Airport Extreme Basestation has a printserver?? Wow!
So, did you set up an ip for the printer? I understood you just plugged the printer to the USB-port hoping it will do all automatically. Sorry if I got it wrong..
If you did, does ping work?

it mentions that the Airport "acts like an HP JetDirect Print Server"...

When I follow those directions, the print job just keeps retrying and retrying....

did you check the Airport Admin and see if you have allow printing - or printer sharing or other equipment.

My thinking is that maybe the base station does not know what to do.

I just went into airport admin and have played with the lan to wan settings and the enable remote printer access options. Still no luck. Is there another option in airport admin to allow printer sharing that I am missing?
