Problem burning CDs

I bought some Memorex CD-RWs that say they can be written on from 4x to 12x. I tried putting one in my computer and it tries reading them and then ejects it and pops an error dialogue saying that it couldn't read them. I know this thing has the ability to burn CD-RWs but it doesn't want to work. I have a 600MHz G3 iMac - I bought it brand new in the middle of 2002. Any ideas on what I can possibly do to get the thing to work? Thanks.

I have a simular problem, Right in the middle fo buring it stops and says error type 6 and the cd comes out. So maby its the same thing?

I have bene tinkering with the cd-rws the past few days and have tried different ways of getting them to mount. If you just select to have them open in Finder an error type -43 dialogue pops up and ejects the cd. I went into Disk Utility and told that program to do a quick erase and the same thing happened when I went back into the Finder. When I told Disk Utility to do a normal eras (I unclicked the little "Quick Erase" checkbox and erased the disc, then went into the Finder, the cd-rw appeared on the desktop with "CD-R" in the icon. So I threw some random file onto the thing and clicked burn and the burner started the process, had the little "I'm thinking" slashed progress bar thing and the computer froze. Thirty seconds later the cd was spit out and an error dialogue with error code 6 appeared. Anyone who has had experience with CD-RW burning that might know what to do, it would be greatly appreciated if you could respond with any suggestion of what could possibly work for burning. Thank you very much.

What could possibly work: different CD-RW media. Not all drives like all media, and on top of that there are always less-than-optimal batches of media that pop up from time to time.
