I finally managed to get my PC and my mac to network. Then I took the next step: assign permissions on my XP machine so that only my mac would be able to access the files on the XP box. Then, when I tried to "Connect to Server" from the finder, and enter the username and password for the allowed user, it gives me an error -5023
