problem printing in OS9

I tried to ask this earlier and really made a mess of things.
I have a blue and white G3 which was recently updated from 9.2 to 10.2.8.
My very old HP deskwriter 680 (used on another G3) would no longer work so I got a HP 5900 and connected it to the blue and white. I can print from OS 10 but not from the 9.2 side. I can't choose the HP 5900 in the chooser and am not sure what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

OSX comes pre-loaded with printer drivers for most printers. OS9 doesn't. Have you gone to HP's website to look for an OS9 driver for your printer?

Thanks. I will try that. But I guess I thought since the printer was not recognized at all in the chooser and stated I needed OS 10.2 that I couldn't use it in OS 9. It is very frustrating...

I tried to download a printer driver from HP for my Deskjet 5940 (for the OS 9.28 side). However, I was told that X10 was required. No drivers for OS 9...

The sad conclusion (after some searching) is that your printer simply is unsupported in OS 9 and I have been unable to find a third party printer driver :( Another HP driver may be able to let you print but the results may be unpredictable. Seem like the only solutions are upgrading the printer or the OS.

A cheap workaround is to install a LaserWriter 8 driver in OS9 if
it isn't already there. No, you don't need a real printer.

Choose the LW8. In the print dialog, select "print to file." This
yields a PostScript (.ps) file that Preview can read and print.
