Hey guys,
I have been searching the web for days trying to figure out a solution to my problem... but so far I've had no luck.
Our Alu iMac died a few months ago. More specifically, the Hard Drive crapped out. Unfortunately, it was not under warranty at the time. Last week I came across an article explaining how to install a new HDD into the iMac. I followed all of the steps, and everything seemed to be working great.
Upon popping in the install DVD, The Hard Drive was recognized instantly. I formatted using the Disk Utility, verified permission, etc. All looked good. I then began the installation of OSX. Again, everything seemed fine. The installation seemed to complete. The iMac restarted in order to finish the installation... then nothing. Just a white screen. I left it alone for a half hour... and it was still on that white screen... this time it showed the "Question Mark Folder" icon as well.
I tried to hold "Option" while restarting the next time (so I could choose to boot from the Hard Drive). However, the Hard Drive did not show up.
So, I booted from the Install DVD again... and the Disk Utility still shows the Hard Drive as if nothing is wrong.
Then I booted the iMac from an old iPod (which has OSX installed in it). Everything booted fine. The new Hard Drive mounted and the icon appeared on the "desktop". Again, I tried to run Disk Utility. Everything, once again, seemed fine. I also opened the volume folder (by clicking on the HDD icon on the desktop) and verified that OSX was installed on it. All the files were there. I was also able to create and delete files from it. (I created a new folder, opened it, then went back and deleted the folder).
I then tried to set the new Hard Drive as the default boot drive using the "System Boot" utility (I forget the name). The new Hard Drive showed up in the list and showed that OSX 10.5 was installed in it. So, I selected it, restarted... and nothing...
I don't get it! I'm really at wit's end here guys. Can anyone help?
EDIT: I tried using the bless command (as instructed by someone in another forum) and that did not work either. Ahh!
