Problems after Norton SystemWorks Install

I started experiencing problems after installing Symantec's Norton SystemWorks. Aps were very slow in opening and I'd get the spinning beachball all the time. So I uninstalled the program using the uninstaller that came with it. Since then, things are better but not close to the performance that I had prior to the installation. Can anyone recommend any modifications that I can make to fix my problem?

I only use the boot disc, I see no reason to install that on my system, well I have a reason why not to... i think you are going through it right now.
