Hi folks have just come across a really strange problem. After searching the last couple of days over the internet I have sort of lost patients and joined here ( which is great place by the way)

I have a external dvd writer ( LG super multi drive) connected via usb to my macbook 13.3". Also have my CD writer internally.

My problem is:
usb dvd writer = Will burn most dvd options ie: iso's, data, but anything to do with a audio cd it does not like it.

internally cd writer = will accept a dvd of any kind but not a cd and will not burn any type of blank audio cd's or data cd.

I have used a few different types of burning software, but pref use toast 10.0

The only thing I have done differently this past month is done a clean reinstall of safari, and also added windows xp via bootcamp.
Please if some can help I would be so gratefull and get the misses of my back as I promised her some audio cds for car lol.

Are you sure it is the drives and not the blank disks? Apple's Super drive is finicky and if you ask others, their machine will take one brand and not another but there is no pattern to it. Mine likes TDK-R, others like Memorex or Sony.
So what brand blank disks are you using?

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried two types of blank cd these are : Maxell XL - II80 (80min), Datawrite titanium (80min) They are both CD-R

The only thing is I have never had problems with different type of brand of cd before it has just suddenly startefd out the blue no tot work. Maybe I could just be really unlucky and have had both lasers in both cd drives have packed in.

It could very well be that there is dust collecting inside the drives. Get a can of compressed air and blow out the dust. Then give it a try.

You can also try using a DVD/CD cleaner disk.

yesh never thought of that i do have a couple of cats that malt a lot it could well be the case, thanks again will try and give this a go over the weekend and let you know the outcome
