Problems importing IE Favorites into Safari 1.3.2

I'm doing a favor for my mom, trying to get her IE favorites imported into Safari 1.3.2, but for whatever reason, no matter which method I use of importing them, it will only import half of the favorites. It imports the same amount every time (ending at the same point in the list of bookmarks). I've used the debug menu, I've exported from IE and imported in Safari, I've used Safari Enhancer (both importing directly from IE and using the "Any HTML File" option). Is there some cap on the number of bookmarks Safari can import? Because IE is exporting all of them just fine.

For the record, it's a red iMac (Summer 2000 ed., I believe) running 10.3.9, IE Mac 5.2 (or whatever the last published version was), and Safari 1.3.2 (as noted earlier).

Thanks for the help!

I don't know why it's not importing all of them, but you could try breaking it up into 2 smaller bookmark files before importing. To do this save a copy of your bookmarks as is on your desktop (either by exporting them from IE, or dragging the bookmarks file out of your preferences folder). Then, open IE and delete half the bookmarks. Now and import the first half into Safari. Now delete all your bookmarks from IE and re-import them from the copy you made and delete the second half of the bookmarks. Then switch to Safari and re-import the second half. That's the real pain in the arse way of doing it.

You could also download and use an app called BookIt. It works flawlessly and with all major browsers.

If Safari imports only half of your IE favorites, then something is dreadfully wrong with Safari. Your Favorites are held in a single file in standard HTML format, /Users/{your account}/Library/Preferences/Explorer/Favorites.html. If you rename the file to Bookmarks.html, it can be used as the bookmarks file for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox/Seamonkey.

As a first troubleshooting measure, select the Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks menu item. Scan the sidebar for Imported IE Favorites. How many instances do you see? You may drag one of them up to Bookmarks Menu.

If indeed only half of your IE Favorites show, then open the original Favorites.html within a Safari browser window. If it doesn't display completely, then the file has become corrupted.
