Problems reinstalling Epson scanner

I have an Epson 1650 scanner and until I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled apps and other stuff, I was able to access it easily through the apps menu.

But now, even though I downloaded the right driver and bunged in the software install CD, a message appears saying it must be installed in Classic. Wasn't before but anyway I tried this and still no sign of the scanner.

What am I doing wrong? Had great trouble reinstalling my HP printer again too.

'I have an Epson 1650 scanner ...', luckily, both the 'Epson Perfection 1650' and 'Epson Perfection 1650 Photo' use the same Macintosh drivers. Which model 1650 scanner do you have?

'I was able to access it easily through the apps menu.' - a presumption of 'via a 'File, Acquire, TWAIN Acquire...' sub-menu item [GraphicConverter], 'File, Import, EPSON TWAIN 5...' sub-menu item [Photoshop and Photoshop Elements 3] (or equivalent)?

'... I downloaded the right driver ... a message appears saying it must be installed in Classic ...' Which driver ('TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v2.6A' - MacOS X 10.2 - 10.3 [and yes, 10.4], 'TWAIN Driver v5.73A' - System 8.6 - 9.2.2, or 'TWAIN Driver v5.75A' - MacOS X 10.2 - 10.2.3) [and yes, 10.4] did you download?

'... bunged in the software install CD ...', ?, please clarify. Use of ones local slang ('bunged') in a question or request to an international support community is meaningless.

'What am I doing wrong?', based on the original post - I do not know yet, please reply to the above questions, and also provide - your Mac model, MacOS X version, and which applications (including version numbers) you use the Epson scanner with.

'Had great' unspecified 'trouble reinstalling my' unknown model 'HP printer's driver 'again too.', is too ambiguous a statement.

The scanner is an Epson Perfection 1650 (NOT the photo). The driver I downloaded is the Epson Twain 5.75A (epson 10588.sea.hqx). When I bought my iMac OSX 10.2.8 in 2003 I installed this driver without any problems (and not in Classic) and was able to see the scanner listed amongst the list of applications. I use Photoshop Elements 2.0.

My next proceedure was to place the CD in the iMac; the CD contains the software that came with the scanner. The computer,as I stated before, wants to use Classic.

My reference to problems installing the printer driver (for an HP deskjet 5550, USB connection) was to indicate I had encountered other problems since wiping everything off the iMac hard drive and re-installing them. It is not something I require help with now.
