Problems saving in CS1

Here is my problem, we have about 5 OS X clients (Panther) that access a Windows 2003 file server via SMB. We are able to connect and authenticate no problem, but from there it's VERY VERY problematic...

We do most of our work in Adobe Illustrator, and what happens is that when a user opens a file, works on it. then goes to save the file he/she gets

"This file is busy and cannot be deleted"

After that it claims that it saved the file but no preview info and the file dissappears. We do not have "Version Cue" turned on.

The only thing that seems to fix the problem temporary is to reboot, but rebooting 5-10 a day is not an option.

Anyone ever run into this problem before?

You may be able to eliminate the problem by working on the file locally (drag it to the desktop) saving it (locally) replacing the server version after its closed and finished.
