problems w/ locked trash items and privledges

ok, i've tried going back and searching for the answer to this in past posts - even thought i had found the answer but the link was set up to macosx.com. so i'll just ask and see who knows.

I went to delete 2 old copies of appleworks off my external drive. it rid of everything but appleworks 6, starting points, essential files and one other which it says are locked. i took each aw out of its folder and tried again. no luck except folder is gone. I tried to move back to desktop and it told me i did not have the privledge.

now i find a third copy on disk while doing a search for starting points. i drag it to trash. same thing. so i come here and research. i move the one still in folder back to disk ok and use batchmod to unlock all files in it. it then trashes ok.

what do i do?

ok, i solved my problem but i am going to document it here because it made no sense to me. I finally got batchmod to id one appleworks app and allow me to unlock. i was then able to trash it and one set of accompaning files. When i dragged the remaining aw icon to batchmod it id'd it as my external drive.

feeling somewhat uneasy about now i went back to trash and changed icon view a few times and quit batchmod, restarted it and tried again. still id'd as my harddrive. i went ahead and unlocked. it finally emptied my trash and all is well again. hd is still intact. trash is empty.
