Problems with address book

I am experiencing a funny behaviour with Address Book. In First and Last name field if for eg: I have Robert Brown, the system adds either again a Brown or part of his email address. I don't know how to resolve this issue. Thanks for your help

Are in the example Robert set as first name and Brown as last? Or first name only in first name field, and last name only in last name field?
I've seen similar happen when address book received entries from LDAP and some people had changed their first name field (as they can't edit last name) to be Firstname Lastname. Then LDAP completes it with the last name, so he or she becomes Firstname Lastname Lastname. As soon as the last name part of name was removed from first name fields, the problem was solved.

Doesn't quite sound like the problem i have.
Example: Toh Ah Guan, Toh being first, Ah Guan being last/middle (whatever makes you happy) ;)
I've swapped it around so that AddBook shows it as Last name then First name
I use the Last Name field to put Ah Guan, and leave the First Name empty, cos no point being so precise.
After syncing, with my iphone, it shows Ah Guan (Last name) , Guan (First name). Which means it shows Ah Guan Guan. Weird.
It alters the correct information I have on my iphone too. Whether i change the info on my iphone then sync, or vice versa, the same things happens. Weird thing is that not all the contacts have this problem. Only a handful.. (5?) I've tried deleting the contacts totally from phone and mbp, create a new one... and same thing happens.
Does my apples have worms ???

D'oh - I thought you'd have the issue with Mail, not iPhone...
Is it with iPhone only then, or do you get it with other apps too?

Does that happen on the contacts where the fist name is left empty?
I wouldn't recommend leaving the first name off, so you could always use e.g. the first letter of the name, T in your example.

Another thing to check would be if the settings (last name first, country settings etc) same on both the Mac's AddressBook and the iPhone.
