Hi there, this is my first post here.

My daugther has an iMac "600" (flower power) with the following characteristicsfeatures: a 600 MHz PowerPC 750cx (G3) processor with a 256k on-chip level 2 cache, 784 MB of RAM, a 40GB Ultra ATA hard drive, a slot-loading 8X/4X/24X CD-RW drive, ATI Rage 128 Ultra (2x AGP) graphics acceleration with 16 MB of SDRAM, and an integrated Harmon Kardon Odyssey sound system in a sleek.

Two weeks ago, she installed a software from the net and now her iMac is not worknig anymore, seems that the operating system has been damaged. We do not have the original CDs of the operating system so, what we are trying to do is to install the OS from a friend's iBook which is the Mac OS 9.2 in japanese version. In fact, now my daughter iMac is now up, the problem we are facing is that she wants the OS in english version back. Again my friend lent me an english version of the Mac OS 9.1.

I was trying to install this OS on the iMac but I get an error that says
"This configuration is not supported on this computer"

Is there any way I can install this english Mac OS 9.1 in the iMac?

Also, I was wondering to install OS X in it, but Im not sure if I can do that, this iMac has a CD/RW unit and it does not have a DVD.

I've been looking for the os 9.2 on the net in a iso image without any success. :(

If some of you can help me in this matter I will appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

well now that you have jap 9.2, eng 9.1 is not going to install. you would have to reformat the hard drive before trying to install eng 9.1 again. as far as os x, you can get 10.2 or 10.3 on cds to install. you can even get 10.4 on cd, but it will cost a little more then the dvd. as far as trying to find an iso of 9.2 on the net, you won't, because its illegel, its copyrighted software.

Won't the japanese version install in english as well? I'm probably mistaken.. it's been a while sense I have installed OS 9. Otherwise, you'd have to format the drive then install 9.1
And yes, OS X will work, as long as you have the CD version of the install. In fact, it will work well on that system, especially considering your amount of RAM.

Well, actually it is out there, but it's illegal to download. If you download it, apple will probably hunt you down and never sell you an iPod again. (Plus, it's really easy to track torrents, so you could get nailed by the government)
