Hi everybody...this is my first post, and i'm quite a newbie on forums at all...so please be patient and if u have some advice let me know directly on my personal e-mail (f.romagnoli001@libero.it).

let's go to the point...very simple...i stopped viewing the appletalk network i'm connected to as soon as i updated my panther with the online update available 2 days ago on the apple servers...

everything seems to be ok....the internet connection works...appletalk is activated...i even pinged a machine on the network succesfully....so why can't i see any computer when i click on the network icon available in any "new window"???????

please if anybody knows what i'm missin' let me know..

Thanks Fab

This is a known panther bug. The network browsing doesn't work...
You might want to connect directly to the clients or servers using Apple+K

Panther's ability to browse a network for appletalk servers is turned off by default. To turn it back on, go to Applications -> Utilities -> Directory Access, and put a check in the box next to appletalk (you'll need to click the lock icon and enter your admin password first).

Appletalk was already enabled (by me) and i even tried to hook to the other machines with apple+K...but i recently discovered thet the problem exists only when the other machines are running os 9....with os x i can see them either from the network icon in the new windows either with Apple+K...

Can't you share folders on your OS 9 boxes over TCP/IP instead of appletalk? I am not really familiar with OS 9...

Just tried myself, connecting to a machine running OS 9.2. Same problem, doesn't even see it.
Network browsing works fine for me with other OS X machines and a XP machine I have.

After creating a new user, I can now use the Browse and connect to an OS 9 machine.

OK...for future reference the problem was solver activating the check in a little box (i never noticed before) in os9 \ sharing : tcp\ip to appletalk (it's not exactly written like this...but i can't remember now :)
