problems with mysql

Hello,

I installed os x.1.2 on my laptop just to be able to do php/mysql on the road. I have been using 9.1 previously. I am decent with linux/bsd but I cannot get mysql to work properly on mac os x.

I downloaded it from entropy.ch and followed his instructions. However, I am having many small problems, and the big one is that ALL queries either time out or take an extremely long time (up to a min to show databases).

If anyone has any information that may be helpful, please send it this way.

I did check out that thread and it did help a little. However, when I do 'mysqladmin -u root password new_password' it says i am anonymous @localhost and I need a password.

I emailed yoshi as he seemed to be on top of things at that forum.

If you had this problem though let me know,
