Gambuchi

Purveyor of Thought...
With my iMac, when I right click an image or basically any file and scroll down the drop down menu to the "open with" line... how do I purge the applications listed there... it's gotten to be a rather intimidating list and I would like to start over.

is it possible to edit the "LaunchServices database" to allow me to selectively remove apps?? or is that where you would even do it...

1) His issue is not with Launch Services

I'm not quite sure on what makes you the expert as to Gambuchi's issues, so lets wait until we hear back from him.

BTW, because the launch services database needs to be tuned up fairly regularily, that script once compliled, is much faster to call then opening Onyx, and locating the needed command

Service Scrubber is your friend.

LaunchServices database is completely unrelated. It associates documents with apps.
simbalala, I appreciate your response, however, LaunchServices is, I believe the database that provides the list that appears when you select "open with" from the dropdown menu and thus is intimately related to the issue I addressed. I am going to check out Service Scrubber (which I happen to have) and see what it offers although as I recall, it only acts on those applications that appear under the sub-heading of the application name in the menu.
