So i get a new toy here, well actually its an LCII that was broken and i put a Quadra 605 Inards in to it, so its LCII body and Quadra inards

so any ideas whats i can do with this? I am thinking of painting it, its definately going to be a new conversation piece, but i wouldnt mind making it something actually useful

im going to order 64mb ram for it, but right now the specs are

25mhz
9mb ram
256mb hard drive
floppy
b&w screen

this is gonna be so much fun :D

i was actually having thoughts of putting a modified ibook mobo in it, i think that would be cool :)

anyways what type of ideas and suggestions do you guys have? color suggestions? hard ware? usages?

:D

You can upgrade that Quadra board to 132 MB. That Quadra has a 33 Mhz processor. You can install OS 8.1 on it. My question is why do you have a B & W monitor? LCII came with color, generally.
Your color scheme can be anything you wish. Make it so it blends with your decor of the room. As for usage, try www.mactreasures.com for some old games.

Oops... my fault. I was looking at a 650 not 605... 25mHZ it is and 36 MB is the highest with a 72 pin SIMM.
OS 8.1 is the highest you can upgrade to, but you still can get some cool games for it.

128mb simms have been tested and worked, its just not apple supported (since they came out after the 605)

which os do you think would be best to have on it?

and the bw monitor is only bw i think because the pins in the cord are missing, but i kinda like it being bw :)

i'll check out some stuff to make it work, i need good paint for this, why type of paint is generally used for computers?

If it still had the original LC II guts in it, you could install NetBSD on it, for extra geeky goodness. Unfortunately NetBSD will not run on 68LC040 systems like the Quadra 605.

OpenBSD will supposedly boot and run, but you need an external terminal to use it. So, no monitor support :( Then again, if you had a VT100, you might be able to hook that up to your old Mac, that would be even geekier, even if not as visually impressive...

MacAddict had a series of how to's and one was painting your Mac. Check out their web site for their archives. I can't remember what year they did that.

I must need new memory chips ;)
