Question for those w/ Firewire...

If you go to Apple System Profiler (err System Profiler in 10.3) what do you see under "FireWire" if you have no devices install?!

It looks kinda like this. Why do you ask?

Well, my Firewire Tape Backup hasn't worked in awhile. I really hadn't spent a lot of time thinking about it our troubleshooting it until I went to upgrade to 10.3... plus it was on my TODO list to start my routine backups.

However, I can't seem to get my drive to show up and nothing sees it. When I go into System Profiler it just says "No Information" as though I don't even have Firewire support on my machine. Which I obviously do.

Your screen shot answers my suspicions. Time to call Apple I believe. :)

Yikes. That's the exact message I get if I select the Airport Card option - I don't have an airport card (yet).

Yes, I have 10.3.1. I haven't seen it working since 10.2.8 I believe. I almost called to have my drive serviced, but w/ all the FW issues lately, wanted to see if it was really my drive or my Mac.

What kind of Mac? I've heard about a few fried FireWire chipsets after using bus powered units.

Well, okay. If I have my tape drive turned on it says "No Information Found" as displayed above. However, if I power off the drive or unplug it from FW, then it shows the Firewire Bus, 400mb/sec deal.

Maybe I have a bad FW drive? I will try and plug it in another OS box and see if I can get it to find it.

Got another FW drive to test? If that doesn't show up as well, then there's a bug in your FW drivers somewhere.

BTW, um, about your avatar...
