Questions about Mac Mail

Howdy
I'm looking for a new email address and i have a few questions about Mac Mail.

1) can i send through mac mail? or do i have to send through my isp?
2) i'm used to email (like yahoo) that saves everything on an internet site so i can check it from different computers. Can i do that with mac mail?
3) do you have it? are you happy with it?

I'd like a Mac address but i check my email from work/home/school/parents and even at the little e-cafe when i was in switzerland. Can i still do that?

The short answer to all your questions, is yes.

You can send mail through either your ISP or through smtp.mac.com

You can check your email on the web with this sweet site: www.iloveapple.com

I have it and I'm very happy with it. Absolutely no complaints.

Ok i set my mom up with a mac.com account and we used the Mail app under OS X to recieve and send email. We can get it ok but it wont send any. Does this happen every now and then or do i have something screwed up. The program filled in most of the info (mail server stuff) so i didn't screw it up. But we've had two messages sitting int he (OUTGOING) message folder for more than a half hour. It says it can't connect. Why?

Thanks

Username and password filled out in the preferences?

Correct smtp server specified? (Should be smtp.mac.com IIRC -- my ISP uses a specific smtp server, so I use theirs. My old ISP let me send through smtp.mac.com with no problems)

Do you need authentication enabled for outgoing mail?

Doh -- just kinda glossed over one of the more likely problems. Does your ISP allow you to send through another smtp server? Mine doesn't, but when I send out email the reply-to field is still intact, so no one has to do any funky editing to send me mail. If you look at the headers, it's obvious that the email didn't come from a mac.com address. But few people look at the headers... This would be something that you'd need to contact your ISP for more information.
