quick question about powerbook

i have a powerbook 867mhz.

two questions:

can i run mac os panther 10.3 on this computer?

will completely erasing all my files and reinstalling panther help with the speed of my g4?

any cautions and caveats?

Which version of MacOS X, overall, is the fastest? - 'Panther' (MacOS X 10.3). Which version of 'Panther' to use? - depends on what software you intend to install. At a minimum, install MacOS X 10.3.4 and use; before deciding on 10.3.5 through 10.3.9.
 
Erasing your files might make sense, but it depends on what's on it now and how much space is available. I like to try to keep at least 4GB free on my startup volume at all time. OS X is not happy without free disk space.
