Quick question G4

This seems to be one of the forum's favourite.
Usual problem of system failing to start.
However I think this is because my G4 fails to recognize the HD.

I have tryed to boot the istall disk pressing alt but I don't get the usual HD icon in the middle - then it all freezes.

Is there any way round this?

Well, start by booting from your original install disk (holding the 'C' key), that run repair disk from the utilities in the menu bar. Report back, please, with the results.
