Quicktime 6.1.1 and AVI help!

So, I'm trying to import some AVI files into FCP and i'm having zero luck. I've even tried cleaning them, and still no luck. When I attempt to open an avi, the QT player does't play it, then searches for the plug-in, and comes back saying that there is nothing available. Has anyone encountered this problem, and or know how to fix it?

which codec does the avi use? Load the file into qt and than check properties from the file and chose video-codec (something like that). You need to transform some codecs. I had the same problem with several avi's
