QuickTime Help function not working

I have a MacBook MacOSX version 10.5.8

My QuickTime Player Help function does not work. I have QuickTime Pro Version 7.6.4 (518.35). The main QuickTime help page comes up, but none of the links will open. If I type a question, and click on the link, it takes me back to the main QuickTime help page. This happens whether I am connected to AirPort or connected with the cable. I have DSL with Verizon.

I have checked the Apple QuickTime troubleshooting page. It says QuickTime is successfully installed and the QuickTime logo is animated indicating that everything is fine.

I have run the fix permissions feature from disk utility several times, including from the install disk. I have also run the Unix maintenance scripts and done a virus scan of my entire system.

When I checked com.apple.helpui in the library/caches, QuickTime Help was not there.

I have also tried deleting the following:

com.apple.helpviewer.plist
com.apple.help.plist
com.apple.helpui
com.apple.helpdata
Hidden Help Viewer Folder

At last attempt to open QuickTime Help, it was blank and the console message was as follows - 12/29/09 1:26:19 AM Help Viewer[209] *** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1)

I've just run into the same problem, kohls.

I thought an update of QuickTime might help but that wasn't any help at all either.

I know it's rather late, but I did find a work-around though:
Try right-clicking on the QuickTime Player Help links and then choosing "Open Link" from the menu that opens - it works for me.

I've no idea why it's behaving so unhelpfully and, from searching the web about the issue, it seems nobody else is coming up with any useful answers.

I engaged Terrier Mode! ;-)

Good luck to anyone else struggling with this "feature'! :)
