But I'm sure if RAM prices keep dropping like stones, I could plunk down another cool $40 for another 512 MB, brining me to 1280 MB. That would rock! :D (I'd have to take out my existing 128 MB module and replace it with 512, which is why I wouldn't have 1408 MB. Oh well.

More RAM for Mac OS X, the better!

Great to see so many folks have 768 or even 1GB!

I've heard that PC133 RAM will work in the G4's PC100 slots, but only at the slower speed. I've also noticed that PC133 is a little more expensive than PC100. Considering that newer G4 machines will only accept PC133 does it make sense to use PC133 so that when you upgrade (and you know you will!) you'll be able to keep your RAM?

(This should be a bloody poll!)

Or.... Since RAM prices are bound to keep dropping does it make better sense to add $80 to the asking price of your old Mac when you resell it and just buy brand new PC133 RAM later?

Or.... Since the next generation of Macs is likely to have a G5 processor, a super-fast BUS, and probably DDR RAM (or QDR RAM!) would it make the most sense to just wait and sell your first-born to get the coolest new thing?

Definitely wait and sell your firstborn. It is the best choice. (I'm the secondborn, and I wish that someone had sold the firstborn. ;) )

I am proposing a new self-enforced 512 minimum rule. All X users should hereby declare a 512 minimum. With prices this low (what is it now, less than $100 per 512?) there is no excuse for anything less than that.

I see other threads like, how much RAM can I run X with? What kind of dumass question is that when you can get 512 for $100!!! The answer is BUY 512 OR MORE AND ENJOY! If you can't afford $100, than I'm sorry, how'd you get into Macs in the first place?

Sorry bout that.

Anyone remember paying $150 for 8 megs on an SE? Now THAT was painful.

Worse, I paid $1,700 four yrs ago for an 8 GIG SCSI RAID. Oh my God! That's a whole freaking computer cost for a measly 8 gig of only Fast SCSI speed, not even as good as my latest ATAs. Wow. It's still sitting in my closet, completely useless.

Its an FAQ about ram specs, check it out slur.

My 640 does pretty good, although I find Mac OS X a huge memory hog at times.

And I remember buying a 2meg upgrade for my SE back in the day. It was supposed to help with the multifinder ;-)

Then there was the 32 megs I bought for my performa 636 which came with only 8... my 486-using friend with his 16megs of ram was rather... envious.

I think my atari 800 maxed out at .512 megs of ram, perhaps less.

Mindbend: If you get tired of that scsi raid in your closet... send it over here! I can always use more hard disk space, and I have a bit of a hobby on collecting computer parts... pm me if you want to get rid of that, because I'd be more than happy to get it off your hands ;-)
