Random Display Change

My office is running a Mac OS X version 10.4.11. Today, it randomly decided to shut down. Upon booting back up, all the icon sizes, text sizes, and graphic sizes had changed. Everything was huge. The desktop background had also reverted to a picture that mac comes with. I've messed around a bit trying to figure out how to fix it, but all the graphics still look huge and text is small. Have fixed the size of icons.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's giving everyone a headache to look at the screen. Also, none of us actually know anything about Mac computers. Thanks.

Apple menu -> System preferences -> Displays.
Click "detect displays" and then set the resolution.

This graceless crash might well have been brought on by a failed or overheated graphics procesor, a bad or loose video cable, or a fault in the monitor - so if it happens again please let us know what model Mac and monitor you are using and try a process of elimination.
