Real World Speed

I am in the process of buying a powerbook or iBook 12. I am leaning more towards the iBook but I need to find some answers to my questions.

First, I want to buy the new airport extreme base station with modem and usb printer connector. I know the iBook will not support the extreme airport speeds but will printing be reasonably fast or painfully slow over 802.11b? (I had a win2k laptop hooked up to 802.11b and it was painfully slow, like 10 minutes to print a ie web page)

Second,
What are the options for hooking the 12 iBook up to an external monitor? Does the lid have to stay open or canit be closed like most pc laptops. If not I may opt for the 14 so I can just use the screen on it instead of an external monitor.

I have a G4/400 Powerbook and Airport Base Station (Snow), no Extreme, and it prints in less than 40 seconds.

if you have the external monitor (and keyboard/mouse) attached at startup, and close the lid as it is starting up, the iBook becomes a desktop.
