RealPlayer Port

Moof!
OK. So, as the Mac community, we have various UNIX/Liunx versions of RealPlayer from which to start. Am I incorrect in my lead that the Linux PPC version will be the best jumping-off point? As long as the libraries are there (ay, there's the rub), all that would be required would be an X windowing system, no? Or is KDE/Gnome requried?

Won't work, even with an X11 Window Manager.

Rumor has it they're releasing UNIX/OS X RealONE next month.. hurray for non standards!

See the Rumor: 10.1.5 thread. There's a leaked beta going around.

I don't know what's involved in Real porting Real to OS X. They sure have taken their sweet time on it, though. I guess it's because they had to develop the entire RealONE system from Windows to Mac instead of just carbonize the current player. I don't know, I don't really care. As long as it works I'll be happy :D

WTF do we have to do to port RealPlayer to OS X? There is a Linux PPC version of RealPlayer. As I understand it, KDE/Gnome are X11 variants, SO...what else do we need? Libraries? Scripts? Magic?

Unless you run emulation, you can pretty much kiss this idea goodbye. There isn't even a Real Player for FreeBSD (we have to run the linux_compat setup to even get that far). So, unless there is kernel extensions to run the Linux dependent piece, it's just a pipe dream. However, if, as you say the rumors are true for RealONE coming soon, then it's just a matter of being patient (at least I knw how that feels for Adobe and PhotoShop 7.0)

Redmond makes Windows, which is what Real wants to dominate Media on. They know us Mac heads are stuck on QuickTime and will never like Real more, so they don't have to bother with us as much.
