Recommended upgrade?

I have a 400 MHZ, 194 MB, 5 GB avail storage, Mac G4 with OSX 10.2.4. I frequently use Photoshop, Illustrator and standard apps for my business..

what upgrade would you recommend? From what I hear, I should have at least 512 MB of memory, right?

I'm getting delays in application performance and getting tired of seeing that rolling rainbow wheel. thanks.
 
Definitely more RAM, the more the merrier, 512 is good but if you want more go for it... Also, consider buying more HD space, as you may run into that 5 GB wall soon.
