Recover files from flashdrive

I have an Imac running 10.4.11

I accidentally saved a folder from my computer hard-drive named "law" to replace a folder named "law" on my flash drive. (I was trying to back up my flashdrive and completely messed the whole thing up) The folders contained different named files. What I am looking to recover are microsoft 2004 word documents.

I already looked in user/.../Microsoft user data

I just spent 3 days prepping for my law school finals and I just lost all of my class notes and outlines.

Please help if you can.
 
Are you saying the original files were only on the flash drive and you overwrote them from your local hard drive by mistake?
 
Data Rescue II will recover it, but only if it hasn't been overwritten--which, since it was on a thumb drive, is highly likely it was overwritten. Bummer!
 
Thanks for the hlep, I actually used a product called boomerang and got some of the files back. (It cost $40)

Data rescue II was $100 and on the demo did not locate the files.
