Reinstalled OSX - internet not working?

Hi, I recently reinstalled OSX on my Powerbook G4 to clear up some programming issues. Everything is fine except now I can't access the internet!

I'm trying to connect to our wireless via Airport. The laptop says it's recognizing my router and I have an IP address present. My airport bars are 4/4 and it looks like everything is working fine. However when I try to open any internet-related application such as AIM or Safari the dock icon does one sad little bounce and that's it. No connection.

I tried to mess with my router but I've had a lot of problems with it in the past and I'm hesitant to drastically alter its current settings which have been working just fine. I believe the problem is my laptop but I have no idea what to do.

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm afraid I can't find anything called Network Diagnostics on my laptop. It's not in Utilities or Apps, and a system search turns up nothing.

Private information remov'd. Open System Preferences and follow the arrows. When you click "Diagnostics" it is pretty much self-explanatory.

Hmmm I don't have anything like that. I can access the Network and bring up the Built-In Ethernet option but when I hit "Assist Me..." all that pops up is the Network Setup Assistant, which I've run multiple times to no effect. It simply concludes that I cannot access the internet. There is no Diagostics option.

It could be because I'm running 10.3.9. I was originally running 10.4 before the reinstall. I don't have the Tiger disks, as the tech guy at my old school upgraded me to 10.4 last time I took the Powerbook in over a year ago.

After talking with a friend and extensive experimenting between my laptop and the router, I've concluded that the problem is NOT my internet connection but my internet-related applications, such as Safari, AIM, and iTunes. For some reason they will not work or even open. I discovered this after finding a working version of Firefox in my App folder.

I'm not sure how to fix those programs. I may have to reinstall Tiger somehow and redownload the apps.

Thanks very much for the suggestions!

::EDIT::

I ran the "Console" application and filtering it for "Safari." I have about 5 messages all saying Safari can't open library because no such file or directory exists. "Errno = 2" Perhaps parts of "library" got deleted during the reinstall?

Then the problem is with your Mac.

Oh yes!!! Update to 10.4 . . . though to be fair, you should be able to reset everything to 10.3 and get it to run--I did.

Check ebay for Retail Disks. Make sure they are that. Otherwise you may be purchasing a very cheap disk your Mac does not recognize.

Then update with the "combo-update" you can download from Apple, though most vendors may include them on a disk for you--mine did when I got 10.4 a long time ago.
