Reinstalling OS X

I've been having weird hangups with X, while using IE. I have my X system on one partition so it's no biggie, and all my prefs are backed up. Is there anything I can do to fix IE before I spend an hour reinstalling? I don't think I erased the partition before installing X, it was empty, but formated while using 9, which shouldn't matter right?

try trashing the preferences. they can be found in ~/Library/Preferences
