Remote Control (iPod)

Can you buy it apart from the 10 or 20GB iPod? Because the man in the Apple Store Antwerp said that it will come in stores by the end of August and he thought that you can't buy it alone, so that you have to buy a whole new iPod... Is it true?

It is actually $39 for both the HEADPHONES and the remote. $39 for the case is correct, though.

I need new headphones for my new iPod (got my 5 giger replaced for free because it had bad battery life), and so I will be getting the new ones when they come out. Yay for the remote! That will be cool, too.

How long should the battery last?

I usually get about 4-5hrs of continuous playing from mine? should I be worried?

From your iPod, you should get AT LEAST a 10 hour battery life when fully charged. If not, you are having the same problem I had, and should take it in to an Apple Store or call Apple tech support. If this IS the problem, Apple will probably replace it for free like they did with mine.

I got about 5 hours from the start when I got my iPod... I'm worried that the battery will give up sooner than later. When I called Apple Support they connected me to this really condescending tech who said "5 hours? wow, that's really a lot of battery life. You should be happy with that."

WTF!?!? The advertised battery life was 10 hrs (and I told him that), and this guy just ignores me? He tried to convince me that the advertised battery life meant only if you were playing continuously from the RAM, no HD spin-up - but seriously, who is going to carry around 1/2/4000 songs just to listen to 32 MB of them?
He said to try looping 1 song over and over from a full charge to empty and see how that goes/call him back...it died in 7 hours which is still lower than 10 - since RAM is low power it should have been more like 15 or 20.

Now I have to call them back again, hopefully I won't get the same a$$**** tech. I just really hate it when these people try to convince me that the stated specs really mean something else that involves me problem. I mean I know it's his job to keep me from sending it in, but he does it in such a condescending and obvious manner that it really tests my patience.

btw, Another problem I am having is that the screen has these weird dark patches in it, which also worry me... on a piece of crap cheapo MP3 player, I wouldn't mind, but I didn't get a $400 player to have these glitches which will probably get worse...

simX, did you have to do anything special to get your iPod repaired? (i.e. ask for the next tier of support? or was the 1st tech actually a tech support guy and not a "convince user not to send product in" guy like mine?)
