Renaming hd

This is what i did:
1. Renamed the drive on the desktop. - Looked like it should.
In the terminal root directory - No change.

2. i did diskutil rename /Volumes/oldname newname - looked like it should in /Volumes.
In the terminal root directory - No change.

What should i do to be able to use the path /newname to find my second hd?

OK...
The obvious step was....
Change the name in the finder moron!
Both on the desktop and in the root directory...
