Repairing an external disk in OSX?

I am the law!
Last night when I left work, I ejected both of my firewire hard drives the way I usually do. One of the drives is only a week old and I have it daisy chained through my other drive which is several years old.

I ejected both disks simultaneously, everything looked normal. I unplugged the FW cable and went home.

When I got to work this morning, I plugged the cable back in and I got the "You have inserted an uninitialized disk, do you want to format it?" message.

Is there ANY way to recover the lost partition? OSX's disk utility won't work because the drive won't mount. I haven't had to do this since the OS9 days :(
