I've got a PowerMac G4 with a broken firewire port on the back of the machine. Only the bottom-most port isn't functioning - the FW and USB ports above it are fine.

I was just hoping someone would know what would be the best replacement part, short of me opening up the machine and looking at it myself..

Machine Name: Power Mac G4
Machine Model: PowerMac3,6
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz

Thanks!

If you're afraid to open the machine, I'd guess that you'd be better with a PCI card.

If any of your PCI slots are free, I expect that pretty much any generic Firewire card should work. As a bonus, or not, you'd get another 400Mbps bus (or 800Mbps if you go for that expense) for more theoretical bandwidth. You might want to check that the card has a power connector, and your computer has a spare power cable, if you want the Firewire ports to power stuff.
