Hi. I am in the process of having to replace an 8 year old HP Laserjet 5000dn. My main requirements are:
The printer to be able to print at a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi and be able to print up to 11" X 17". The laser printer does not need to be color, in fact we would like a higher-quality monochrome printer over a lessor quality color laser.
I will need to stay under $5,000, under $3,500 would be even better!
We produce "Photocopy Master Art" that is used to photocopy manuals and documents with grey-scale art. We also produce proofs for textbooks that also have no color pictures.
Currently the HP Laserjet usually prints with minute "holes" or breaks in the type and thus also produces unacceptable graphics. This is even after a recent repair kit installation.
We have been pretty happy with the HP 5000; but I am really impressed with the output of larger Xerox and Canon MFCs and wondered if their quality extended their smaller business line.
We will be printing from Mac Pro's running Snow Leopard and some jobs from Adobe's CS5 suite.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and any likes / dis-likes of newer laser printers.
Thanks for your input,
Kerry
