Replacement optical mouse...

Randman, aren't you an editor? Of course it's mice. ;)

I personally woulnd't (and didn't) go for a really expensive mouse when you can get a perfectly good mouse in the $20-40 range. I'd say go to your local office/electronics store and check out what they have. I've seen everything from simple, cheap 2-button mice to a wireless mouse that looks like a trigger.

Yeah, I'm an editor/designer, but I thought that the plural of computer mouse was mouses and not mice. Mice being for the little cute rodents who ate the slices of cheese that used to run Pengu's mouse. :)
But Arden is right about *mouses* being cheap and plentiful. I just got a mini-optical mouse perfect for my iBook (M$, I'm almost ashamed to say) that was about A$35 after the rebate.
Could also consider a bluetooth mouse, or a nifty trackball (my choice) if that floats your boat.

I've been using a simple Logitech Optical USB (M-BD58) scroll mouse for 3 years now, and love it. Think I paid $30 or $40 back then for it, but it's dropped to like $15 or $20 now.

Heck, it's survived me all that time...not to mention my 3yr/old god daughter who is a terror at times, and quite a few other 'little bundles O joy' that have visited.

It's corded, but I prefer that for my desktop. I bought a cordless one for a gift once for my little brother. The damned thing ate batteries so fast it wasn't funny.

Um. Just to clear things up. I am in australia, and if all the comments about "buy a cheap one" are in regards to the prices on the pages i gave links to, they are australian prices.

As for "go to your local electronics store"
A. The town I live in actually has more computer stores than "electronics" stores.
B. If i wanted a cheapo mouse, i wouldnt be asking for advice.
C. The last one liked goats cheese. Don't ask why..

macally makes great macpatable mices. I love my Qball optical track ball. It is the peer of the best logitec or microsoft device and sells for less. Fully programable, smoooth operation, really speeds up productivity and is just a joy to use.

Cheers!

The correct term - Meeces (hahaha)

Macally and Kensington are the brands to stick with.

I stick with logitech myself.
I have an mx700 which is an excellent mouse, optical, cordless, and precise with no appreciable lag. Its pricy, but look out for a discount somewhere (I got mine for £30 rather than around £55 as it is normally). If you dont want cordless, go for mx500 - same mouse just with a cord.
If you want a cheaper mouse, I use the swann usb optiglo for my laptop, check it here, is small and looks funky- and only £17- so i suppose cheap in aus as well- is an aus company by the look of it.

Good luck

I vote for the Logitech Optical Mouse. I have one on my computer at work, one on my mac at home, and one on my wifes mac at home. They work out of the box perfectly with OS X, they are solid. I've never had a single problem with a Logitech mouse, my last one (classic 3 button logitech mouse) was around 7 years old when I finally gave in and wanted a scroll wheel. The standard Logitech Optical Mouse is around $15, you can find it onsale for around $10 at times.

As much as you all scream logitech at me, i think I'm gonna go with the Kensington Optical Elite.

A. If you think about it, computer stores are electronic stores. :)
B. I say, why pay more when you can get what you're looking for for less? I got my mouse for around $30. It's got 3 buttons and a small trackball, and I love it.
C. What's wrong with goat cheese? It's probably very nutritional.

And Randman, computer mice are named after their furry counterpart, so there's no reason it would be "mouses." Just FYI.

A. If you think about it, computer stores are electronic stores
Not really. because when i do think about it, an electronics store, is somewhere that has ALL SORTS of electronics, tvs, dvds, fridges. etc. A lot of these also have computers, but a computer store, does not necessarily have dvd players (though more and more do now) and most definitely do not have fridges, microwaves, etc.

B. I say, why pay more when you can get what you're looking for for less? I got my mouse for around $30. It's got 3 buttons and a small trackball, and I love it.
Because quite often you get what you pay for.
